Welcome to the 2025 Caribbean Dental Sleep Medicine Conference

July 10–13, 2025 | Barbados

If you're a doctor, dentist or dental hygienist in the Caribbean and you're still unsure about the role sleep apnoea plays in your patients' overall health — or you're aware of the risks but unsure how to assess or treat it — then this conference was made for you.

Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA) is more than just a snoring issue. It’s a silent, underdiagnosed, and potentially life-threatening condition that is deeply intertwined with hypertension, stroke, diabetes, heart failure, and cognitive decline. Patients are suffering — many without even knowing the cause. And the truth is, many of us in healthcare aren’t trained to detect it… or don’t know what to do when we suspect it.

That changes now.

This July, we invite you to join us in Barbados for the third Dental Sleep Medicine Conference in two years — and by far our most comprehensive and collaborative event yet. This year’s programme includes:

  • A hands-on Clinical Masterclass for dentists ready to go beyond theory

  • A groundbreaking Collaborative Care Day featuring sleep physicians, cardiologists, paediatricians, orthodontists, myofunctional therapists, and more

  • A special focus on paediatric OSA and the role dentists play in identifying and intercepting airway development issues early

Whether you're a physician, dentist, or allied health provider, this is your chance to build the confidence and competence to assess your patients, know when and how to intervene, and refer or collaborate more effectively within a true Caribbean multidisciplinary framework.

And you're not alone.

100% of attendees from our previous conferences said they would definitely recommend this event to their colleagues — and with good reason. They left with more than just knowledge — they left energized, empowered, and part of a growing regional community committed to improving lives through better sleep and better teamwork.

If you’ve ever felt unsure, overwhelmed, or isolated when it comes to managing patients with sleep apnoea — this is the event that changes that.

✅ Learn.
🤝 Connect.
💙 Collaborate.
🌍 Make an impact.

Don't miss this.
This is where Caribbean healthcare comes together — and moves forward.

Training Topics

Are you a healthcare professional who regularly treats patients with high blood pressure, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, or unexplained fatigue — but aren’t sure what role sleep apnoea might be playing in their health?

Are you a dentist or dental hygienist who suspects that something more might be going on when a patient reports snoring, daytime tiredness, or grinding their teeth — but you’re not quite sure what to look for or how to act?

You’re not alone.
Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA) and related sleep breathing disorders remain underdiagnosed, undertreated, and under-discussed in clinical spaces across the Caribbean — even though they are strongly linked to some of our region’s most serious chronic illnesses.

This year’s Caribbean Dental Sleep Medicine Conference was designed to change that.

Day 1: Introduction to Dental Sleep Medicine

Led by internationally renowned expert Dr. Aditi Desai, Day 1 is your foundation. Whether you're a doctor, dentist, nurse, hygienist, therapist or student, this session will walk you through:

✅ Why quality sleep matters — and how it connects to everything from blood pressure to brain function
✅ What Obstructive Sleep Apnoea really is — and why it’s so often missed
✅ The role that dentists and allied professionals can play in screening and intervention
✅ The evidence-based treatment options available — including CPAP and oral appliance therapy
✅ Medico-legal considerations when treating or referring patients with OSA

This session is essential for anyone who wants to understand sleep apnoea at its root, and walk away with practical tools to better serve their patients.

Day 2: Collaborative Care for Better Outcomes

This is the day that sets our conference apart.

Featuring a powerful faculty of Sleep Physicians, Cardiologists, Paediatricians, ENT specialists, Orthodontists, Myofunctional Therapists, and Dental Sleep Experts — this multidisciplinary day explores:

✔️ What true interdisciplinary care looks like
✔️ How to manage OSA in both adults and children
✔️ How to detect warning signs early (especially in paediatric patients)
✔️ How each profession can contribute meaningfully to a shared care plan
✔️ How better collaboration leads to better patient outcomes — and fewer missed diagnoses

If you’ve ever felt unsure how to work alongside colleagues in other specialties, this is your opportunity to learn how.

If you’ve ever wished your referrals led to better follow-up or more coordinated care — this day will give you the framework to help make that happen.

FACULTY ON THIS DAY INCLUDES

  • Professor Timothy Roach - Sleep Physician

  • Dr R. Jeff Massay - Cardiologist

  • Dr Keisha Thomas-Gibson - Anaesthetist
